Woman thinks something over

Invisalign is a great way to straighten out your smile without the inconvenient dietary restrictions or conspicuous metal wires and brackets that come with traditional braces. Because of all the benefits it offers, this treatment has only increased in popularity since it was introduced in the late nineties. However, you probably have a few questions you’d like answered before you decide to commit to the treatment. Here are a few commonly asked questions about Invisalign along with their answers.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign works by straightening the teeth through a sequence of customized clear dental trays. Each set of trays is designed to be worn for two weeks while it pushes the teeth into better positions. At the end of the two weeks, the patient simply moves on to the next set in the sequence. By the end of the treatment, the patient’s smile will be in a healthier and more beautiful alignment.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

You can expect some discomfort when you switch to a new set of dental trays, but this will fade as you get used to wearing them. The gums and cheeks may also develop some sore spots at these times. This is not especially different from the discomfort that comes when wearing traditional braces. However, the discomfort that comes during the first week of wearing Invisalign will be the worst that it will get, and changing to new trays will become easier as time goes on. This tenderness can be managed through over-the-counter pain relievers.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

On average, it takes about twelve months to complete an Invisalign treatment, but the actual length of time varies significantly from patient to patient. Some people choose Invisalign to address cosmetic issues like minor crowding or gaps, and their treatments may only take a few months. Other people deal with major issues like overbites, underbites, and crossbites, and some of these cases may require sixteen months or more to be realigned.

Is Invisalign Noticeable?

Invisalign is virtually undetectable, especially when compared to traditional braces. Though you may notice a slight shine on your teeth when you wear them, you can expect your clear aligners to go completely unnoticed by casual observers.

Invisalign is an excellent orthodontic method that has satisfied millions of patients. Consulting with your dentist can determine if Invisalign can be a suitable treatment for you.
